Profilo

Nunzia Pirro earned a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the University of Notre Dame, United States, in 2019. Since then, she has been part of the PHYS group at OGS, initially as a research fellow and, since 2025, as a permanent researcher.

Her research focuses on ocean dynamics, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that integrates theoretical principles, in-situ data, laboratory experiments, and numerical models, with particular attention to physical processes and their socio-economic implications.

She is an expert in the use of autonomous systems such as gliders, with skills ranging from piloting to the scientific management of missions, as well as the analysis and interpretation of collected data. She is also involved in designing and conducting laboratory experiments to simulate oceanic dynamics, contributing to a deeper understanding of ocean circulation and variability.

Nunzia has authored several scientific articles and datasets in oceanography and serves as a reviewer for various international scientific journals
