Earthquakes: OGS and UNITS develop new method to estimate damage to buildings

Thank you to a new method called "Damage Assessment for Rapid Response - DARR", developed by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS and the University of Trieste, it is possible to quickly estimate the expected damage to buildings thanks to earthquake records and simplified building models. To do this, it is essential to record the earthquake near or inside the building with accelerometers.

The results of the study have just been published in the journal Seismological Research Letters. They show the potential of the method, which could be applied in seismically active areas subject to seismic monitoring and support better emergency management after seismic events.
