Marine robotics: OGS participates in the project MARBLE

OGS is participating in the new project MARBLE, which is funded under the INTERREG Adrion programme.

The main objective is to improve the skills and capabilities in the application of marine robotics in the blue economy by defining an innovative international joint master programme "MARBLE - Maritime Robotics in the Blue Economy".

The other steps planned until the end of the project in September 2023 are to build a consolidated network of academic and commercial partners and to promote knowledge and skills on sustainable blue economy based on new technologies in the Adriatic-Ionian region.

The partnership MARBLE includes:

4 universities and one research institution: University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Croatia, project coordinator), University of Trieste (Italy), National Technical University of Athens (Greece), University of Sarajevo Faculty of Electrical Engineering (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and University of Montenegro (Montenegro), National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (Italy); one business cluster and one digital innovation hub: Maritime Technology Cluster FVG S.c.a.rl. (Italy) and Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) Agrifood Croatia (Croatia). Three departments are involved in UniTS: DMG (project promoter), DIA and DEAMS.

The interest of international partners in the University of Trieste is mainly due to the success of the OGS-funded Master's programme in Sustainable Blue Economy, which is considered a model for international education in the Mediterranean and an example of science diplomacy.

The MARBLE project has been strongly supported by the blue economy industry. 29 companies and research institutions have pledged their support by offering internships, mentoring students and giving lectures in their field of expertise.
