Thanks to OGS and FIT, the Laboratory on Quantitative Sustainability is established in Trieste.

The Trieste Laboratory on Quantitative Sustainability is founded by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS) and the Fondazione internazionale Trieste per il Progresso e la Libertà delle Scienze ( FIT ) with financial support from the Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

The aim of the Trieste Laboratory on Quantitative Sustainability - TLQS is to create a wide-ranging laboratory, involving the scientific and humanistic institutions of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, dedicated to research on quantitative sustainability. Its location in the Upper Adriatic, an area of great scientific and technological development, represents a strong element of territorial characterization for the application of scientific methods to the representation and quantitative analysis of sustainable development goals in the perspective of the study of the building blocks of the science of sustainability.

Activities involve scientific modeling on seven specific topics: Study of the Blue Planet for the Sustainability of the Marine Economy, Food and Biodiversity for the Health of the Planet and its Inhabitants, Climate Change and the Environment, Energy Transition and Industrial Processes, Data Science in the Service of Sustainability and Human Ecology, Protection of the Earth Habitat with Space Instruments, Sustainability and Social Sciences.
