Two awards for OGS research

These days, two prestigious international prizes were awarded to OGS colleagues.

Marco Reale, researcher of the Section of Oceanography, received in Marrakech, together with Georgios Zittis, the MedCLIVAR "Young scientist award" for "his contribution to the characterization of Mediterranean cyclones in present and future climates, his analysis of the climate/ocean/biogeochemical dynamics in the Mediterranean Sea, with a focus on the ionian, Adriatic and Aegean Seas, as well as his contribution to MedCLIVAR activities".

Laura De Santis, researcher of the Section of Geophysics, received the Geological Society of America (GSA) honorary fellow award 2022 at the opening of the 2022 GSA meeting in Denver with the following citation "Dr. Laura De Santis has been an exemplary leader in Antarctic geoscience for over two decades. Within this community she stands out as an exemplary researcher and coordinator. Her accomplishments in international collaboration are unparalleled. Dr. De Santis has led numerous seismic expeditions to Antarctica, collecting data to unravel the intricate glacial history of this critical continent. Her work is seminal in our understanding of complex ice sheet dynamics and ocean ice interactions. With our climate warming and the rate of ice disintegration accelerating, understanding where and how the ice sheets behaved in the past is critical to predicting our climate and coastal future".
