28th ERVO (European Research Vessel Operators) Meeting Concludes in Trieste
The 28th ERVO (European Research Vessel Operators) meeting has just concluded in Trieste, bringing together for three days operators and managers of European research fleets to discuss innovation, emerging technologies and the future challenges of marine research infrastructures.
Organised by OGS between 8 and 11 June, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for the European marine scientific community to convene, fostering constructive dialogue among institutions, research organisations and oceanographic vessel operators, in support of increasingly collaborative and shared research.
A highlight of the initiative was the joint presence in Trieste of Italy’s two main oceanographic research vessels, N/R Laura Bassi (the OGS icebreaker) and N/R Gaia Blu (owned by the National Research Council), which were also open to public visits, marking an important moment of engagement between scientific research and citizens.
The meeting proved to be a resounding success, with excellent attendance and a clear demonstration of both Trieste's status as a leading centre for marine research and its role as an international nexus for ocean exploration and scientific knowledge. The event also served as a catalyst for enhanced collaboration among institutions, underscoring the importance of shared science and the value of national research infrastructures.
