FIS projects: €2.5 million to the OGS to study the deep sea and risks in mountain regions

Two research projects of great scientific relevance will be developed at the OGS thanks to funding from the Italian Science Fund (FIS). The funding, awarded under the Starting Grant scheme, supports the activities of oceanographer Annunziata Pirro, who was confirmed in a permanent role at OGS in 2025, and geoinformatics specialist Sansar Raj Meena, who is joining from the University of Padua.

The Italian Science Fund supports the implementation of outstanding fundamental research projects led by emerging, mid-career or established researchers (Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants). The programme, funded by the Ministry of University and Research, follows the European Research Council (ERC) model, promoting the development of internationally competitive research.
