Lorenzo Fant and Ilaria Cunico from OGS win the 2025 Young Researchers Award
Lorenzo Fant and Ilaria Cunico, from OGS, have been awarded in the fourth edition of the Young Researchers Award promoted by Gruppo 2003 for Scientific Research, an initiative aimed at promoting research activities and enhancing the value of the new generations of scientists — a precious resource for the country’s future.
Lorenzo Fant won in the Biodiversity category for his study on how competition for biomass regulates the relationships between organisms and communities, providing an innovative model to interpret the structure of ecosystems — “Biomass competition connects individual and community scaling patterns,” published in Nature Communications, November 2024.
Ilaria Cunico received a special mention for demonstrating how river dynamics models can display chaotic and nonlinear behavior, with important implications for environmental management — “River ecomorphodynamic models exhibit features of nonlinear dynamics and chaos,” published in Geophysical Research Letters, May 2024.
