The R/V Laura Bassi was honoured with the Premio Barcola 2023

The R/V Laura Bassi, owned by OGS, was honoured with the 29th Premio Barcola. The prize committee, headed by Alberto Cattaruzza, presented the award to OGS President Nicola Casagni today.

The OGS icebreaker reached the southernmost point ever reached by a ship in January, when it took part in the 38th scientific campaign of the PNRA (National Research Programme in the Antarctic) in the Ross Sea (more precisely in the Bay of Whales). The ship was captained by Franco Sedmak and had 58 people on board, members of the technical crew and the research team, including Franco Coren, Director of the Centre for Management of Maritime Infrastructures of the OGS.

The committee of the Premio Barcola honoured the ship and its team thanks to the record. The prize is a bronze sculpture by the artist Enzo Mari, which represents the statue at the top of the Faro della Vittoria in Barcola.
