ARTEMis
AleRT and impact-forecast standards for Emergency Management
ARTEMis aims to pave the way for a new era of harmonized and standardized protocols, tools, and procedures for emergency management and risk awareness at the pan-European level, focusing on greater coordination, common standards, and innovative tools to improve risk understanding and management. The initiative is developed across six main areas.
First, it involves an in-depth analysis of existing European systems for forecasting, early warning, and emergency management in order to identify weaknesses, gaps, and opportunities for improvement. At the same time efforts are made to define an integrated emergency management framework, developed in collaboration with European, national, and local authorities, while also building on already established platforms.
Another key aspect is the standardization of warning systems and impact forecasting methodologies, with the aim of making information on vulnerability and exposure more consistent and ensuring rapid and effective communication to the relevant authorities. The project also includes a testing phase, in which these tools and protocols are tested in areas prone to natural hazards, including through practical exercises.
Significant attention is also paid to training and capacity building through activities such as workshops, courses, and webinars aimed at stakeholders, along with the development of useful materials for lifelong learning. Finally, ARTEMis aims to increase public awareness of risks through innovative data visualization tools and information campaigns that encourage more informed and responsible behavior.
