METIQ

Taking the opportunity of the INQUA Congress of 2023, a substantial number of university researchers and Public Research Bodies (including the Geological Service of Italy - ISPRA, the body responsible for the creation of the official geological cartographer), coordinated by the Italian Association for the study of the Quaternary (AIQUA) have launched an initiative for the realization of the evolutionary model of the Italian territory in the Quaternary (METIQ). This model will have as its basis and main product the cartography of the quaternary units at the scale of 1: 500,000. This product will be similar to what has been done in the past in synthesis projects of considerable impact on a national scale such as the Neotectonic Map of Italy and the Structural Model of Italy as part of the Geodynamic Finalized Project.
