Seismic monitoring at the Bordano site (UD)
Since 2006, OGS and SIOT (Società Italiana per l’Oleodotto Transalpino S.p.A.) have collaborated on seismic monitoring at a site in the municipality of Bordano (UD). This site is particularly significant because it is near a major pumping station for the Transalpine Pipeline, in an area of high seismic hazard that was severely affected by the 1976 Friuli earthquake. SIOT provided funds to modernize the pre-existing station, including the addition of an accelerometer for accurate measurement of strong earthquakes. OGS monitors ground shaking in real time and, in the event of significant earthquakes, sends SIOT rapid reports (within two minutes of the event) to enable the implementation of control or safety measures for its facilities. The seismograms are made available in real time to the scientific community through the European Integrated Data Archive and service (EIDA).
