Antarctica: the icebreaker Laura Bassi begins scientific mission

The icebreaker Laura Bassi left the port of Lyttelton in New Zealand in recent days, heading for Antarctica to carry out activities for the 41st expedition of the National Antarctic Research Program.

The vessel departed from Italy in early October and, after about 48 days at sea, reached New Zealand, passing through the Panama Canal and crossing the entire Pacific Ocean. It will sail for a total of four months in Antarctic waters and will be engaged in five research projects funded by the PNRA, as well as in logistical support activities, involving 44 technical and scientific personnel and 23 crew members.
