ItaliaMeteo and OGS sign a cooperation agreement on oceanography and marine sciences.

ItaliaMeteo, the National Agency for Meteorology and Climatology, and OGS have signed a five-year framework agreement to pool their competencies and establish a structured collaboration in the marine sciences sector.

The agreement, signed by OGS President Nicola Casagli and ItaliaMeteo Director Carlo Cacciamani, represents a significant synergy aimed at fostering dialogue, development, and in-depth exploration of research topics of particular relevance to marine sciences and oceanography. The partnership between the two public institutions will enable the initiation and renewal of exchange initiatives with other bodies, organisations, institutions, universities, and schools at all levels, as well as the promotion of joint research, advanced training, and scientific outreach activities.

The collaboration will focus on four main areas:
● promoting and coordinating national and international research projects;
● activities related to operational oceanography and the sharing of observational data;
● enhancing, disseminating, and applying technical and scientific knowledge;
● developing research infrastructures.

ItaliaMeteo is the national meteorological service, established to strengthen and coordinate monitoring and forecasting activities in meteorology, climate, and marine weather, in close cooperation with national and regional meteorological institutions. Its main activities in support of citizens, Civil Protection, institutions, and businesses include the provision of meteorological and climate services and products, data processing and analysis, the promotion and implementation of research and development programmes, participation in national and international projects, as well as training and outreach activities.
