Establishing and operating an Ocean Data Interoperability Platform (ODIP)

Research. In order to remove the barriers that hinder effective data sharing across scientific sectors and international borders, it is proposed to establish and manage a Marine Data Interoperability Platform (ODIP), which includes all major organizations involved in data management in Europe, the USA, and Australia. ODIP is also supported by IOC/IODE, which will participate in the development, closely linking this activity with the Ocean Data Standards project. The ODIP platform will organize international workshops to promote the dissemination of common standards and develop prototypes to evaluate and test selected potential standards and interoperability solutions that ensure persistent availability and effective data sharing across different scientific domains, organizations, and national borders. The ODIP partnership will also provide a forum to harmonize the various regional systems while promoting the European contribution to the global system.
