Pan-European Infrastructures for Ocean and Marine Data Management (SeaDataNet II)

Research. The overall objective of the SeaDataNet II project is to upgrade the existing SeaDataNet infrastructure into a robust, pan-European operational system providing high-quality and up-to-date access to marine data, metadata, and data products collected by data acquisition activities in all coastal states. This will be achieved by defining, adopting, and promoting common data management standards and enabling both technical and semantic interoperability with other major data management systems and initiatives. The project also aims to ensure compliance with the INSPIRE directive and to contribute to the INSPIRE process of developing operational rules for oceanography.

SeaDataNet II is operated by 40 highly qualified Data Centres that have been actively involved in data management for many years. These centres have the essential capabilities and infrastructure for data quality control, long-term data stewardship, retrieval, and distribution.

OGS/NODC, as the National Oceanographic Data Centre for Italy, operates one of the infrastructure’s nodes and provides access to updated data and information for Italy.
