RETE VENETO/VENETO NETWORK
Management of the Veneto Region's seismic monitoring network
As part of a collaboration agreement with the Veneto Region established in 1998, the OGS conducts seismic monitoring of the region for research purposes, primarily to support civil defense activities. To this end, the OGS maintains a network of 17 seismometric stations for earthquake detection and the study of seismic sources, and 340 accelerometers for measuring ground shaking within residential areas. An automatic processing system is also active, which can locate earthquakes and estimate ground shaking parameters within two minutes of the event. The data is immediately sent to the Veneto Civil Protection for the organization of any interventions in the affected areas. The network is part of the Northeast Italy monitoring system (SMINO) of the OGS. The seismograms are made available in real time to the scientific community through the European Integrated Data Archive and service (EIDA).
