Science for Prevention in Civil Protection: the OGS Event at the CRS

On the occasion of the National Civil Protection Week (5–13 October 2025), OGS is organizing a meeting entitled “Science for Prevention in Civil Protection”, scheduled for Thursday, 9 October 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Seismological Research Centre (CRS) of OGS in Udine (via Treviso 55).
The event is part of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, established by the United Nations and celebrated every year on 13 October.

The initiative, promoted by the Italian Civil Protection Department, is dedicated to the contribution of scientific research in the forecasting and prevention of natural hazards. It aims to raise public awareness—especially among young people—about the importance of monitoring activities and good civil protection practices for the safety of communities.

The program includes institutional greetings (via online connection) from the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and the Head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabio Ciciliano, followed by an introduction by the President of OGS, Nicola Casagli.

Next will be presentations by Matteo Picozzi, Director of the CRS–OGS, and Valerio Poggi and Giovanna Laurenzano (CRS), who will illustrate the terrestrial monitoring systems (seismic and geodetic) of Northeastern Italy and the research activities supporting risk mitigation strategies and territorial planning.

The event is free to attend upon registration. Alternatively, it can be followed live via streaming on the OGS YouTube channel.
